I had heard through the grapevine that old Rosies Pub was under new ownership and that they had a terrific menu. One day for lunch a companion and I decided to give it a try. When we first entered the establishment I was taken aback by the wonderful atmosphere. Rosies looked like a combination of Cheers and a typical downtown London Pub. The wooden interior is set off by the large oak bar and brass taps which give the place a very comfortable and antiquated feel. Once we took a seat at the bar I noticed a multitude of fine spirits that forced me into clearing my schedule for the rest of the afternoon. Once that easy task was accomplished, I ordered up a pint of Guinness for myself, a blue moon for my friend, and a menu.
The bartender was very friendly and listed off the daily specials while we perused the surprisingly diverse menu. Rosies offers a variety of categories of food to choose from including soup and salad, grilled sandwiches, burgers, pizza, fish, create your own deli sandwich, and combination offers. The prices are very reasonable with almost all meals costing less than $5.00. While we sipped on our tasty beverages and talked over the menu we had an opportunity to meet the new owner Jim Erps. Jim was very friendly and accommodating while answering all of our questions about the different items on the menu. After a few suggestions my companion decided on the Front Street grilled cheese and I settled on a classic cheeseburger. We also ordered some cheese sticks off the extensive appetizer portion of the menu.
Our orders were cooked and served in a very timely fashion. The cheese sticks were tremendous and was a great prelude to our meal. My cheeseburger was served with steak fries a pickle and all the fixings. I was surprised at how large the burger was and it looked terrific. The cheeseburger was juicy and perfectly cooked on a very fresh Kaiser bun and the generous portion of fries were also very tasty, I gave it all I had and was still unable to finish it (all burgers are one quarter pound). My friend gave the Front Street grilled cheese rave reviews and was even nice enough to let me give it a try. The original concoction includes swiss, cheddar, and hot pepper cheeses along with tomatoes, dijon mustard, and scallions on texas toast. The combination of ingredients creates a very mouth-watering sandwich.
Rosies Pub also began serving homemade pizza recently. They have two different sizes (7 inch & 12 inch) and come with either cheese, pepperoni, or deluxe. The 7 inch pizza is $4.00 and the 12 inch deluxe pizza is only $5.50 and serves up to three people. They also serve five different kinds of burgers, chicken breasts, walleye, pork chops, a BLT, and a variety of salads along with many other things. I will definitely be returning to Rosies Pub very soon and recommend that you do the same.
Rosies serves food from 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Rosies is located at 106 E. Front St (directly across from the Front St. parking garage in downtown Bloomington).
