Lucca Grill's reputation for excellent Italian food is well-known in these parts. From the original Baldini pizza (which Tot Baldini claimed was the first pizza introduced in central Illinois), to its world-famous "steak on Italian" sandwich (the name of which was changed years ago to be more politically correct), anything you order at Lucca Grill will be tasty, indeed.
The menu includes a nice selection of appetizers, pizza, sandwiches, pasta classics and salads, and we've never had a bad meal there yet. The service is as fast as the employees are opinionated. (That's probably a tradition started by Tot, who used to ignore business to talk politics.) The mahogany bar takes up half the downstairs area, with enough room left for about a dozen tables. Upstairs there's a large dining room with more of a restaurant setting. But the real specialty is the atmosphere. Whether you just drop by in a suit or overalls, for a drink or to dine "ala Baldini", you always feel like a "regular" at the Lucca.
