Thursday, December 27 was much like any other evening that I have spent at Avanti's Italian restaurant on Main in Normal. Me (25 years old), my wife, and both sets of our parents went for a reasonably priced "American" Italian meal. What I mean by "American" is that any visitor from Rome wouldn't believe we call this food Italian. However, the authentic taste is still one that will bring you back for more. Like always, the place was packed. One quickly finds out that not only B-N residents know about the quality and service Avanti's provides, but anyone traveling through town might tell you that Avanti's is a great place to stop for carry-out, or to sit down for 30-45 minutes to grab a "date acceptable," meal.

Although there was a waiting list to be seated, I would say we only had to
wait 10-15 minutes for a table. The wait staff was friendly, mainly consisting of current college and high school students. Orders at our table ranged from the spaghetti dinner (with the popular Avanti's thick and sweet sauce) to Italian sausage and tortellini. The French Onion soup looked tremendous, and of course, warm fresh bread and butter is served with every dinner ordered. Other favorites are pizza bread, thin crust pizza, and their locally-famous gondola cold sandwiches that include, ham, salami, American cheese, and lettuce on fresh-baked bread.

The dress here is casual and you are sure to see a friendly face that you recognize from town. The bill for all 6 of us to eat was approximately $40, not bad for a quick sit-down dinner in the central part of town.
