Parkside students attend 3-day ILEED Club Conference

The Illinois Leaders in Energy Education Development Club has been trained by the state and the NEED office from Washington, D.C. Andrea Norton, Rachel Hirst, Kristie Reuter, Jesse McDermit, Justin Daly, Dan Vezquez, and Sophia Hayner attended the three day conference to come back and teach energy education to Parkside students and parents. Andrea Norton last June went before the Unit 5 Board to talk about the value of using Compact Fluorescent Lights(CFL.) We completed an energy audit of Parkside Junior High with Tom Coe the DCCA auditory from Springfield. In our audit of PJHS we found that over $19,000 could be saved by installing CFL in the 95 emergency lights at our school. The ILEED Club is purchasing CFL with money earned from their candy cane sales. We hope to see an energy savings by the fall of next year.
