Bloomington-Normal Soccer Team Finishes 2nd at 3v3 Nationals
The MLS Soccer 3v3 National Finals were held over the Martin Luther King weekend in Orlando, Florida at the Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World. A group of local girls, the Knockouts, finished 2nd in the nation at the U10 age level. The members of the Knockouts 3v3 team are Paige Knippenberg, Mackenzie Olson, Meg Rogers, Lisa Thomas and Jenna Wampler. They are coached by Darren Rogers. Locally they play for a club team, the CIS Knockouts.
The Knockouts earned the right to compete in the 3v3 National event by winning a local event in Peoria, and by winning the Midwest Regional event in Chicago last August. Over 600 teams began the competition in over 66 local events held all over the United States.
The Knockouts started strong at nationals, beating teams from Oklahoma, Georgia, New Jersey and Missouri in pool play. This got them one of the #1 seeds in the elimination portion of the tournament and a 1st round bye. The Knockouts beat teams from Ohio, Michigan, and Chicago, Illinois to reach the finals. The Knockouts lost a close championship game to a team from South Florida.
