Merwin Nature Preserve
Parklands Foundation

Merwin Nature Preserve is a 700-acre property 3.5 miles northeast of Lake Bloomington, at the intersection of County Roads 1925E & 250W. Owned and maintained by The Parklands Foundation, the nature preserve has been set aside to protect the native plant and animal communities, and allow area residents to hike, photograph, study and enjoy the natural habitat.

The main entrance, which is accessible from the west gate just north of the Mackinaw River bridge on 1925E (Gridley Blacktop), leads to trails which meander through woods and prairie and along the bluff overlooking the Mackinaw. Named after one of its founders, Loring Merwin, the preserve is open to the public year ‘round from sunrise to sunset daily.

The Parklands Foundation Is a member supported, private, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation, restoration and maintenance of natural land in McLean County. It was formed in 1967 when a group of forward-thinking citizens became concerned with the lack of natural land being preserved in the county. Today, the foundation owns and maintains more than 1700 acres of natural land in McLean and Woodford County.
