Margie Fairbanks has been doing commissioned portraits of people, pets and homes in Bloomington-Normal for the past 14 years. As a self taught artist, she works in a variety of mediums including pencil, watercolor and oil, focusing mainly in watercolor. She exhibits examples of commissioned pieces along with original and limited edition prints at the annual Sugar Creek Arts Festival in downtown Normal. The most recent recognition of her work is a painting of a lighthouse in Nantucket that was chosen by the American Diabetes Association Holiday Art Search. It has been printed on Christmas cards and featured in their 2001 catalog.
