Herb Eaton describes himself as someone who likes to make things. He has designed, manufactured and marketed fine wooden toys and hardwood kitchen accessories to upscale stores and mail order catalogs throughout the United States. He has taught classes in three-dimensional design, drawing, ceramics and museum preparatory.

Herb’s fascination with and appreciation for this area's corn fields made a big impact on our community through his creation of the large fibreglass corn cob sculptures that many local groups and artists painted and presented for two summers as downtown Bloomington’s now famous “Corn on the Curb” displays. The colorful corn art is now seen at a variety of local spots and private homes.

Herb says it’s easy for him to give personalities and character to his corn designs, which can be found on postcards, prints, shirts, bags and aprons in area shops and stores throughout the state. His art is shown in various public and private collections locally and abroad.

The Eaton Studio and Gallery also hosts Gather @ the Gallery on the third Wednesday of the month from 5 - 8pm. Visitors are invited to engage in discussions about a theme related to art (both serious and light-hearted topics are scheduled) and enjoy light refreshments and good company .

A graduate of Illinois State University with a Masters of Fine Art degree, Herb works out of a downtown Bloomington studio, located at 411 N. Center, which used to be an old carriage warehouse and creamery. He and his family live nearby in the historic Dimmitt's Grove neighborhood.
