Ed's painting "career" began after many years of working full-time and going to school part-time to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree at Illinois State University in 1990. He then decided it was time to do something he enjoyed, and has since taken art classes from Fred Mills, Harold Gregor, Joseph Fettingis, Tom Francesconi, Tony Couch, Sheila Parsons, Jeanne Ledbetter, Catherine W. Smith, Nita Engle, and Jean Griesemer..

Ed is a member of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America and the Illinois Art League. His awards include:

1994 - First Prize in the amateur division of the Bloomington-Normal Artists Guild competition

2000 - First Prize in the Bloomington Sesquicentennial Art Competition Watercolor Division

2004 - Second Prize in the Illinois Art League's Spring Show

2005 – First Prize in the Illinois Art League’s Spring Show &  Best of Show at the Watseka, IL Sugar Creek Art Fair

2007 – First Prize in the Illinois Art League’s Spring Show

Ed paints primarily landscapes and still lifes. Regardless of the subject matter, he is very conscious of strong, rich color, good composition, and value contrasts. He always strives for a sense of excitement and beauty in whatever he is painting.

Ed's artwork can be seen/purchased at the following art fairs in 2007:

May 12 Peoria Heights Art Fair, Peoria, IL.

August 25 & 26 Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival, Lincoln, IL.
