Robert has been working with wood since he was a teenager, but in 1993 got serious about turning wood, which is the process of changing it into a rounded shape with a tool. He has studied under some of the best turners in the world. He teaches and demonstrates frequently, and has received several awards in the last few years for his work.
In his family, art is a way of life. His mother was a silversmith, his brother and sister are artists, his wife is a professional quilter and his sons are both in college art programs.
Robert's turnings reflect his love for wood and the beauty of nature. He finds great joy in revealing the inner splendor in what others may see as firewood. In addition to art pieces, Robert also produces turnings for furniture and architectural restoration.
Wood used in his work is recycled from downed trees found in central Illinois.
